Alaina Martin's Truth on the Water

Malibu Boats are best enjoyed with the people you love the most - whether it's your family, your friends, or even a group of fellow moms getting together to learn how to surf. Meet Alaina Martin, founder of the Surf Moms Club on Lake Austin and learn how surfing brought this dynamic group of women together thanks to the 22 MXZ.

CONNECTING WITH MEMORIES & PEOPLE

Growing up, Alaina spent most of her time on the water with her loved ones. "Some of my best childhood memories are on the lake. Just having that family time was so awesome," she recalled.

Today, the water continues to be her second home thanks to the Surf Moms Club on Lake Austin. The Club is an extension of her personality, as she explained. "Being able to connect with people one-on-one is something that I really enjoy. The Surf Mom group kind of just happened organically. The lake became a place that we could escape to and at which we could play."

Though the members come from a variety of backgrounds, they're drawn together by their common love for the water, for each other, and for their shared responsibilities as mothers. "We all come from different backgrounds and might have different things going on in our lives, but when you get on a boat together, it just creates this sense of belonging and community," she said.

EMPOWERMENT THROUGH SURFING

Motherhood is one of the toughest, most demanding jobs in the world but when the Surf Moms meet, they enter a place in which they can relax and simply focus on themselves and their enthusiasm for wakesurfing, as Alaina explained. "We wear so many hats as a mom and have so many responsibilities. Getting out on the water, letting go, and enjoying learning how to surf is very empowering."

"I leave all of my worries of being a mom, at home, and I'm just out there in that moment. Being behind the boat is the most peace I ever feel." said one Surf Moms member.

Another agreed. " Especially as a mom, it really centers you. Something about the lake brings you into the present."

A CARING CLUB

For Alaina, the Surf Moms Club is about creating a supportive environment that helps moms embrace the fun of wakesurfing and the boating lifestyle. "You're going to build your life around whatever is your truth and whatever you prioritize," Alaina said.

And at the Surf Moms Club, the members rightly prioritize themselves - just for a few hours on the water, at least. "Alaina actually took me out for my very first wakesurfing lesson. She has patience. She doesn't care if you fall. She tells you why you fell. It's absolutely empowering," one Surf Mom commented. "Alaina is cheering you on as much as anybody."

THE TRUTH IS: COMMUNITY IS EVERYTHING

"The Surf Moms Club is so much more than just surfing. It's the peace of mind that it brings. As soon as I pull out of that marina, my mood can completely change. It doesn't matter what happened that day. As soon as I'm on the water, it's as if it didn't matter. I think that that real connection with the water and with the people we care about is such a precious thing."
